Why does style matter?

What is style and why is it important? Style is important to consider because every photographer has their own creative style and vision. When you look at a photographer’s portfolio, you can get a sense of their artistic approach and see if it is something you like and envision for yourself.

Each photographer may have different techniques and overall looks for lighting, poses, and editing, so it's important to find someone whose style resonates with you. As a photographer myself, I have had women approach me to do their photos, but they don’t like my photography style. They just like me as a person and as a photographer. In this case, I tell them to look at my work again and that their photos will look exactly like all the photos on my website and in my portfolio.

It is important that every client know what they are getting into ahead of time. If all the photos look very different, consider asking the photographer which photos to expect how your photos as the client will look like. Also make sure that the photographer is showing their own work! Occasionally photographers will show other’s work and say “my photos will look like this” but in actuality they don’t have the skill, experience or technique to deliver the photos they are promising.

You’re the client and your experience is the MOST important. Make sure your photographer will deliver the look you want and how you envision yourself. As always, I recommend myself as a photographer for you, but if I’m not a good fit based on my portfolio, please feel free to ask me recommendations for photographers that have a different look!
